012 ❖ everything’s computer

🌱 something(s) from this week to hold on to 🌱

◆ Drawing a not-totally-direct line from teaching W (7) how to navigate through PC games using WASD on the keyboard to his present-day Minecraft savant status, where he builds “partcore” courses for me to navigate and tries really really hard not to heckle me as I fail with the basics and fall to my almost death. so proud.

◆ Chris Fleming as a singular riff demon who is chaotic enough to meet the moment but deeply and specifically funny on a level that can only be achieved by a man who, by his own admission, may have also been caught up in the Salem witch trials:

◆ A quantity of leftover lentil soup that says, “you can pry the waning days of soup season from my cold dead hands”

◆ Our now almost nightly journey to the high school down the block at dusk to hit tennis balls in the field and wrestle in the grass, which I always protest as an idea but love very much in practice once we get there, proving that some of the time “it’s the journey, not the destination” is bullshit because sometimes the destination rules and the journey involves throwing a screaming toddler over my shoulder like a sack of potatoes because I wouldn’t let them lie face down on the lines in the middle of the street.

◆ a solid bench scraper, which I do not have and more than likely would not currently use, but deeply covet as a symbol of a maybe not so far off future where I plan meals ahead of time, put the ingredients on the shopping list, and prepare with as much calm as I can muster, phone off in some distant spot that would require a disruptive number of steps to get to, and that I remember to put the bowl out to scrape things into, and to keep the cloths washed that do the best job of keeping the counters clean, and that my self-deprecating references to The Bear (“BEHIND!”) nod not to how much of a goddamn mess I am, but what an intermediate novice I could become.
